VERSE

It's well past three
Still time for a walk said we.

Off Crow Lane there is this green grassy field
With open views over Chesterfield.
Can you see those roof tops by the River Rother?
Our house in the village also has a view of this crooked spire.

Crow Lane
What a delightful name.

Just look at those ancient hedges burning bright
In the setting sun with its amazing light.
Birds are still singing at the onset of night.

Here, where the road dips before rising with a twist
We can see distant Monk Wood veiled here in blue mist.

We dally a while by the old oak row.
To see the sun sink low with its radiant glow.

We hurry past a seat and paths now darkening
For pink clouds over Brimington Common are rapidly greying.

As we descend home before it gets too dark
The old oak row stands silhouette stark
And, Crow Lane has become spooky by the end of our walk.

The uplifting sight of Hady Hill greets
As cars speed away with their Christmas treats.

As blinds are drawn on Boxing Day,
Our minds slip into dreamy replay
Of all the free treats we have here to take away.
