      Searching the indexes is free.  Sometimes useful for finding civil parish, birth places and ages of likely targets for use in searches.  You can locate a row of the census record free but there is a charge for downloading associated records.  As of 2006, £5 Vouchers for paying for the 1901 census online are sold in the Chesterfield Library local studies.

      This is the official site for births marriages and deaths. Information has to be paid for with a credit or debit card – or with a £5 voucher which can be bought from the library. There are links to the Office of National Statistics which can provide copies of certificates at a cost.
